If you live in America, then you know a lot of our lifestyle centers around food. Everyone knows the wives tale "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach" and the equally renown, "the way to a woman's is chocolate." Both connecting love with food.
In the world of business, more and more meetings are conducted over lunch because you are more likely to win someone over to your ideas when you've shared a positive experience - such as, a great conversation over a good meal. After decades of fast food and microwave dinners to-go, there is an increasing movement in America to bring back 'the family dinner.' The benefits are many: it teaches children social engagement and the lost art of conversation, it provides financial savings, it's developmentally and psychologically healthy for the overall family. Research at universities such as Harvard and Carnegie Mellon are proving the important role the dinner table has in resolving conflict. What it boils down to is this: People bond over food and drinks.
So, is it any wonder that Jesus met people at gatherings that involved eating and drinking? In fact, Jesus loved to eat and drink so much that he was labeled a glutton and drunkard! (Luke 7:34) Long before wives spun their tales and universities caught on, Jesus showed us the art of having a meal together. His entire ministry benefited from it. Mealtime is a great time to laugh and share ideas, and develop friendships. Gathering at a table creates a sense of community, family, and belonging. If you enjoyed the Conversations with Jesus Series and were surprised to learn what Jesus would really say in a chat, then grab a fork and pull up a chair. On March 4, Jeff will begin the Meals with Jesus Series with a warm breakfast. Hope you brought your appetite, because we're about to have a meal with Jesus at Freedom Life Center.
